Perak Launches First Phase of Perakku Housing Scheme

KUALA LUMPUR – We have heard of the Rumah Selangorku housing scheme and not to be outdone, the Perak government has launched the first phase of the “Perakku” housing programme.

The first phase will involve 750 units of low- and medium-cost homes being built in “several areas in the state”.

Housing, Local Government, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs and New Villages committee chairman Paul Yong Choo Kiong said the housing programmes comprising low-cost; low- and medium-cost; and affordable housing; “would be carried out in stages”.

Yong explained that there will be three categories of the homes under the scheme – low-cost houses priced between RM70,000 and RM90,000, low-medium cost houses priced between RM150,000 and RM180,000, and affordable homes sold for RM250,000 and below, he told the media after giving out cheques to NGOs, houses of worship, and associations at the state secretariat.

The homes would be built in all districts in Perak, with the final target being 50,000 units.

“Those who are eligible to purchase such homes are urged to register with the Perak Housing and Property Board.

“To date, the board has received some 9,000 applications from people interested in buying houses under the government’s scheme,” Yong said.
